How Is Asbestos
Related To Mesothelioma? The only known cause of
mesothelioma in the U.S. is when a patient has had previous
exposure to asbestos dust or fibers. Manufacturers using
asbestos knew about the hazards of asbestos many years ago -
but kept this knowledge to themselves. The first warnings to
workers exposed to asbestos fibres came in the mid-1960s, and
were terribly inadequate. Even today, workers are often kept
'in the dark' when working around asbestos and are at risk of
mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma Information Questions and Answers
What Is The Mesothelium?
The mesothelium is a membrane that covers and protects the internal organs of
the body. It is composed of two layers of cells, one layer immediately
surrounding the organ while the other forms a sac around it. The mesothelium
produces a lubricating fluid released between these layers, allowing moving
organs such as the heart and lungs to glide easily against adjacent
structures.
