Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer and in 90% of the cases is associated with asbestos exposure. Mesothelioma is almost always fatal as no definitive cure is available at the moment. Pleural mesothelioma is the most common accounting for 70% of the total mesothelioma cases. Early diagnosis of the disease can improve the survival duration of a patient, but due to the long latency period between the exposure to asbestos and the appearance of symptoms diagnosis at an early stage of the disease in difficult in many cases.
